GO BUCKETFILLERS!!!

Peaceful Schools wrote “The Bucket Filling Song” to accompany their successful touring production of Have You Filled a Bucket Today? The Play. The play, written by Le Moyne College alumna Ann Marie Gardiner Halstead and based on the award-winning children’s books by Carol McCloud, uses humor, heart, and larger-than-life characters to teach students the concepts of Bucket Filling and Bucket Dipping. Audiences throughout Central and Northern NY have met Trey, a 4th grade student, who learns about Bucket Filling at summer camp. Along the way he is helped by Mark the camp counselor, Professor Smarty Pants III, and Bucket Filling Fairy as he discovers how to fill his own bucket by treating others with kindness and respect.

Peaceful Schools became the first official touring company of the play in 2013. “The Peaceful Schools production of my play is creative, engaging, lively, and just plain fun! The actors have brought so much life to the characters, honoring both the humor and the heart of the story,” said Ms. Gardinier Halstead. Students and staff across Central NY agree. As an elementary school principal in Mexico, NY, said, it “could not have been a better match, and the kids are so excited about being bucket fillers. It’s the positive message – instead of the anti-bullying message – because kids know how to treat one another vs. just saying we have a no bullying school.”

“The Bucket Filling Song” is featured at the close of Peaceful Schools’ production of the play. “The script ends with one of the main characters, Bucket Filling Fairy, leading the audience in a rhyming chant. It lent itself perfectly to a song, so the team at Peaceful Schools set the poem to music,” says Shawn Forster, Artistic Director of Peaceful Schools. Hearing students sing along during performances, along with the numerous requests Peaceful Schools received for a recording of the song from music teachers and principals, gave Forster the idea to release the song on iTunes. The original touring cast headed into the studio this spring, and is excited to see such an overwhelming, positive response to their recording. “It has been so amazing to see everyone rally around our little song,” continued Forster. “The upbeat music pairs so well with Gardinier Halstead’s positive Bucket Filling lyrics. We believe this can be a fun way for parents, teachers, and other adults to help teach their kids how to be Bucket Fillers!”

Peaceful Schools is excited to be entering its third year of touring the play, offering productions throughout Central and Northern NY, and adding a Western NY tour based in Buffalo for this coming school year!
